LITERARY TREATS 2023:

A TOOTH IN

MY POPSICLE

BY DAVID HALDANE

BOOK LAUNCH

APRIL 12th, 15th, and 25th.

What started as a story of desperation turned into a beautiful transformation. Award-winning journalist David Haldane walked into the newsroom of his long-time employer, the Los Angeles Times, one day to get unceremoniously escorted right back out in a massive layoff. What followed was a long saga that landed him in a place he never imagined: the magical Philippine island of Siargao, in Northern Mindanao, that had served as the cradle for his Filipino bride.

Haldane, now a Mindanao Gold Star Daily columnist, tells the gripping story in his new book, A Tooth In My Popsicle, to be launched April 12th in Cebu,  April 15th in Iligan, and April 25th in Surigao City.

“I wrote the book to tell the story of a transformative adventure, sometimes frightening, occasionally hilarious, but always, I think, entertaining,” Haldane explains. “I hope A Tooth in My Popsicle motivates other dreamers to pursue what their hearts truly desire.”

The book is a compilation of short narrative essays about his experience from first inviting his now-wife to America for a new life, to the beauty of hope with two young children. Haldane’s two previous books are the award-winning memoir, Nazis & Nudists, and a short-story collection entitled Jenny on the Street. His newspaper column is called “Expat Eye.”

“A passionate story told with elegance straight from the heart,” Filipino historian and author Fernando A. Almeda Jr. says of the new book. “Unputdownable reading.”

Adds author Marcel L. Milliam: “David writes like a dream. His essays are very accessible and the narrative compelling.”
